in a nutshell

Two significant events which occured during the past week - semester 1 results and Myriad.

I never liked the GPA system although its purpose is to show how well-rounded a student is in terms of academic results. It is not fair because I scored 79 for one subject, resulting in the same grade point (GP) as my classmate who scored 70. Just one more mark would have made that distinction between a grade point of 4.0 and 3.6...

The combined concert, featuring the various musical groups of RI, was successful although I feel that it is not a good idea to hold a combined concert. With only 15 minutes of performing time for each group, it really does not make sense to go through countless intense rehearsals just to appear on stage for a short while - almost like SYF, but less ridiculous. Also this would limit the variety of pieces each group would perform. To me, variety comes from different genres of music written for string orchestra, and not the option of having 5 different musical groups on stage!

On the whole we (RISE) performed well considering that our schedule did not run smoothly over the past few months. Definitely a lot more work is needed to match our standards during SYF, but more importantly we enjoyed performing on stage while the audience appreciated the music.
